About us

We are Nela and Daniel Surňák from Havířov, and our kennel Sharqiya Sand is connected not only by our love for the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever breed, but also by the journey that led us to it.

The idea of getting a dog came naturally – Daniel preferred a smaller breed, while I grew up surrounded by large dogs. We eventually agreed on a medium-sized hunting breed that would love water and have a reddish coat. When we entered these requirements into a search, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever appeared – and the decision was made. At first sight, we were captivated not only by its appearance, but also by its temperament and working drive. After thorough research, we knew that the toller was the perfect partner for our lifestyle.

Our goal is to breed healthy, well-balanced, and work-driven individuals who will not only be capable hunting dogs, but above all beloved family members. We believe that a dog should be a full-fledged part of its owner's life – a companion, a partner, and a friend. We strive to treat each of our dogs with respect for their needs, even though they cannot express them in words. For us, not only genetics and health are important, but also temperament, willingness to cooperate, and joy in work.

The foundation of our kennel is our female Omany Targaryen Fire, who joined us in 2024. Omany is a gentle, sensitive, and perceptive female with an excellent nose, a strong desire to work, and a natural love for water. She is also an excellent swimmer, and water work clearly brings her great joy. She has passed the hunting test OVVR, and we continue her hunting training – currently focusing on retrieving game, building on earlier dummy training. Health-wise, she has all examinations clear, with excellent hip and elbow scores and all genetic tests clear. We have also participated in several dog shows, which we would like to pursue occasionally in the future, although Omany finds the greatest joy in retrieving and working. In time, we would also like to explore other activities that will fulfill her.

The Sharqiya Sand kennel was established in 2025, and we are planning our first litter in 2026. Our daughter was born in the same year as Omany, so our dogs grow up in close contact with family and a normal home environment. The first litter will be raised primarily in an apartment, with a gradual transition to an outdoor environment in our garden during the second month of life, so that the puppies gain diverse stimuli and experiences.

Puppies from our kennel will be suitable for active owners who have enough time, willingness to work with their dog, and an interest in learning about the breed and training. Our wish is that each of our dogs lives as a member of the family and becomes a full part of their owners' lives, not just a dog kept outside.
