About us

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Kennel | Sharqiya Sand

We are Nela and Daniel Surňák from Havířov, Czech Republic, and our kennel Sharqiya Sand is connected not only by our love for the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (toller), but also by the journey that led us to it.

The idea of getting a dog came naturally – Daniel preferred a smaller breed, while I grew up surrounded by large dogs. We eventually agreed on a medium-sized hunting breed that loves water and has a characteristic reddish coat. When we entered these requirements into a search, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever appeared – and the decision was made.

Our goal is to breed healthy, well-balanced, and work-driven tollers, who will not only be capable hunting dogs, but above all beloved family members. We believe that a dog should be a full-fledged part of its owner's life – a companion, a partner, and a friend.

The foundation of our kennel is our female Omany Targaryen Fire, who joined us in 2024. She is a gentle, sensitive, and perceptive female with an excellent nose, strong working drive, and a natural love for water. She has passed the hunting test OVVR and we continue her training with a focus on retrieving.

Health-wise, she has all examinations clear, including excellent hip and elbow scores and clean genetic tests. We have also participated in several dog shows, which we would like to continue in the future, although she enjoys working activities the most.

The Sharqiya Sand kennel was established in 2025, and our first litter is planned for 2026. Our dogs grow up in close contact with our family and a normal home environment, which is essential for raising well-balanced toller puppies.

Puppies from our kennel will be suitable for active owners who are willing to work with their dog, spend time together, and continue learning about the breed and training. Our wish is that each dog becomes a true member of the family, not just a dog kept outside.
